Activity: Conduct research about Bill 229 and some of the implications of the changes. Conduct an issue analysis to better understand the stakeholders involved. Create spatial journal using ArcGIS Online to identify areas at risk. Create a story map after the data has been analysed and a action plan has been created.

The Royal Canadian Geographical Society

Since 1929, The Royal Canadian Geographical Society has been making Canada better known to Canadians and to the world. We work with 25,000 teachers nationwide to help the next generations of Canadians chart their own path.

As you know, I have been promoting Geographic Education for several years as a high school teacher, and in 2017, became a Fellow of RCGS and the Canadian Geographic rep for Ontario.

The items up for auction include an eight-day Haida Gwaii Expedition Cruise, a trip to Egypt guided by RCGS Fellow and explorer George Kourounis and an eight-day rafting experience on the Nahanni River, N.W.T.

If you’re not looking for an adventure, perhaps a virtual dinner with author Margaret Atwood is more enticing to you? Or maybe a private concert from Survivorman Les Stroud will snag your bid.

Whether you’re looking for artwork, books, experiences or travel adventures donated by great partners fromMaple Leaf Adventures to the Toronto Zoo, the RCGS Silent Auction has something for everyone to bid on.

Find all the silent auction items at rcgsauction.ca.

Thank you so much in advance for helping us raise funds for our critical work!

A big chunk of Greenland's ice cap breaks off as Arctic shifts to new climate regime.

Inquiry: How might this ice break off impact human and animal systems?

Activity: Collect data on human and animal systems in the region. Create a spatial journal of the data to show where the greatest impact of this break off might be. Decide what action might be taken to support the local, national, and international communities (human and animal) and communicate vioa story map.

OAGEE Fall 2020 Virtual Conference
Call for Presenters
#GeographyConnects
Workshop and presentation proposals are now being accepted for the OAGEE Fall 2020 Virtual Conference to be held online to help us all work through the Covid-19 pandemic, on Saturday, October 17, 2020.
Sessions will run Saturday morning and afternoon, from 9 AM to 12:30 PM and 1:00 PM to 3:15 PM. Each session is 50 minutes in length, with a 10 break between sessions. There will not be any double length sessions this year. There will be a 30 minute lunch break from 12:30 to 1:00 PM.
Each session will have an OAGEE moderator to introduce the session and assist with technical issues. Presenters will be required to submit their presentation materials in advance to be posted to the OAGEE website for access by participants and to help OAGEE staff to deal with any presentation issues.
Since the format of this conference is online, space is not an issue. Participants will not be expected to preregister for individual sessions. As a result, presenters will have to anticipate a degree of fluidity in attendance during their session.
This year's theme is "Smart Cities" - As our current society moves towards a more virtual society, how can we stay connected even though our geography, social and physical, may try to keep us apart?
All applicable workshop and presentation proposals will be considered for the conference.  However, we are encouraging potential presenters to consider providing sessions that focus on the following highlighted session themes:
  • Smart Cities
  • use of technology for remote learning
  • geotechnology
  • urban and rural issues
  • Canada wide issues, e.g. climate change, the changing nature of work
  • environmental and social justice/global citizenship issues
Notification regarding submissions will be provided early September.
Submit all proposals to Ewan.Geddes@tdsb.on.ca and Paul.Hackl@tdsb.on.ca using this Google Form: 2020 Workshop Proposal (also available from the 2020 Fall Conference Website).
Notes:  Links will be required for the online proposal submission and the technical support email address.
