Inside your smartphone: analyzing the rare-earth elements By Abi Hayward Canadian Geographic
Concepts of Geographic Thinking: Spatial Significance, Interrelationships, Geographic Perspective
Inquiry: How might the extraction of these elements impact communities? How might these elements be reclaimed after the phone becomes obsolete?
Activity: Create a spatial journal to indicate where these elements can be found. Collect information on how these elements are extracted and turned into usable material for cell phones. Conduct an issue analysis of the situation to identify possible ways at improving the extraction process to reduce environmental/societal impacts. Create a story map to communicate possible improvement to the current situation.
